On 21 September, 2014  The Belgian Association of the Friends of Via Francigena, with the acronym GRAND in Belgian was created.  GRAND is a very active association that successfully cooperates with the AEVF.

The Via Francigena is constantly growing and developing, and the number of pilgrims is increasing dramatically each year.   It is within this context that a group of enthusiasts, pilgrims and volunteers formed this association: it aims to support Belgian pilgrims who wish to start their journey to Rome from Belgium.

The Association seeks to promote the official route of the Via Francigena in accordance to the guidelines of the European Association of the Via Francigena, an association officially designated by the Council of Europe for the development and safeguarding of the route stretching from Canterbury to Rome and into Apulia, to the Mediterranean.

GRAND also promotes a number of new tracks starting from Belgium that meet up with the official route. Among the future actions envisaged for the association are: training sessions for pilgrims and for those who want to embark on the journey, as well as the distribution of credentials (official AEVF) and information materials.

To date, the association is bilingual, French and Dutch.
