The french part of the Via Francigena is not as famous as the italian part. The good news is that today all this has changed and is getting better and better.

Since January 2019, the European Association of the Via Francigena ways (EAVF) created a French operational headquarter in Champlitte (region Bourgogne-Franche-Comté) to coordinate all the French partners, actors of development, tourism operators.

The change is on. Slow tourism, sustainable development, environment preservation… all these preoccupations are making of the cultural itinerary a vector of a new way to discover people, countries and cultures participating in increasing the local economy and putting the «little» heritage forward.

Today walking in France is even easier, in March the first guide of the route from Canterbury to the Great Saint Bernard Pass was released. The text is currently in French and will shortly be translated into Italian and English as well.

Walking the French Via Francigena also means enjoying food, hundred of cheeses (maroilles, Langres, Comté, Cancoillotte…) and typical meals as the Carbonade Flamande, Fricadelle, river fish dishes, Bresse chicken with morels, Morteaux sausages without forgetting to taste the local beers, the Champagne and wines from Jura.

Find out in the attached document the true and false myths about the Via Francigena in France and enjoy in this video some of the best landscapes of this stretch of the route.
