A new reference point for pilgrims has opened in Monte Sant’Angelo. Thanks to the commitment of four local associations, including Monte Sant’Angelo Francigena, last Friday the “Senso Civico” office was opened.

This is a key step forward for the network of paths in Puglia and in particular in the Gargano. Inside the new location, located near the Basilica and marked by the pilgrim symbol visible from the outside, walkers can request all the information on the Via Francigena, buy the European Association of Via Francigena Ways (EAVF) Pilgrim Passport and request the stamp of the Monte Sant’Angelo leg depicting Saint Michael the Archangel.

The first “stamped” EAVF Pilgrim Passports were handed over to the Agesci group (Association of Italian Catholic Guides and Scouts) in the Daunia Protagoista area of ”Un Cammino di Libertà” from Monte Sant’Angelo. Bishop Luigi Renna was there to bless the “passport” of these special pilgrims during the Mass celebrated in the Shrine of St. Michael the Archangel, as well as the Bishop of Cerignola-Ascoli Satriano and apostolic administrator of the Archdiocese of Manfredonia-Vieste-San Giovanni Rotondo. The day was an occasion to present the volume “San Michele in Monte Laureto in Putignano” by the author professor Marcello Mignozzi.

A few hours after the opening, “Senso Civico” welcomed another pilgrim. The volunteers greeted Antonio, who departed from Venice by bike. Now that a photo filled with smiles and enthusiasm has been taken, Monte Sant’Angelo is ready to welcome other pilgrims. A long journey of greetings has just begun.
