San Lorenzo Nuovo

San Lorenzo Nuovo

San Lorenzo Nuovo is a small town in neoclassical style which sits on a hill near the ancient Bolsena volcano. San Lorenzo Nuovo sits on a hill at approximately 500 metres of altitude, on the inner side of the crater of the lake of Bolsena. One side of the village overlooks the lake, while the other side dominates the plain of Acquapendente.

It is at the cross road of the ancient Via Cassia, which links Rome to Tuscany and Strada Maremmana 74, which connects Orbetello and Pitigliano to Orvieto. Unlike other neighbouring villages, which still retain a medieval aura, San Lorenzo Nuovo has a neoclassical architecture, dating back to the 18th century: small houses are dominated by the church of San Lorenzo, which overlooks an octagonal square.
