A castle stood here in the 10th century, which enclosed within its walls a chapel dedicated to Madonna. In 1427, Cardinal Orsini granted the remains to the Carmelite Order and allowed them to build a convent. The church still welcomes the pilgrims, with an icon of the Virgin and Child on the altar.
