Equi Terme

OFFER FOR PILGRIMS

For centuries, rainwater has been collected from the heights of the Apuan Alps, filtered underground, enriched by mineral salts and active health-giving ingredients and, then rising towards the surface where it can be collected and exploited. The marble heart of the Apuans is the origin of the curative waters that, for centuries, have fed the Baths at Equi. The waters of Equi Terme rise from the underground at a temperature between 22 and 27o centigrade which brings them into the category of hypothermal waters, it’s a mineral water properly so called having fixed mineral levels above the level of 1 gram per litre (the level is 4.8 gram per litre).  Its specific chemical composition is classified as being Chlorinated/sodium sulphate alkaline water and, as such, it is characterised by the presence of high levels of chlorine, sodium and sulphates with, in lesser quantities, bicarbonate, calcium, potassium and traces of lithium, bromium and iron.

The presence during the year of varying quantities of iron ions dissolved in the water, causes the characteristic changes in the colour of the water, a phenomenon easily seen in the two outside thermal swimming pools, due to the oxidisation, on contact with the air, of ferrous ions (Fe++) into ferric ions (Fe+++) which gives the water, at certain times of the year, a characteristic reddish-brown colour.

Our waters boast extraordinary curative and regenerative powers, and are particularly indicated for the cure of respiratory and E.N.T. problems (pharyngitis, sinusitis, rhinitis, laryngitis, tracheitis, bronchitis, bronchi ectasia, rhinogenous deafness) of skin conditions (eczema, juvenile acne, itchy dermatitis, psoriasis), limb and joint problems (arthritis, joint rheumatism, fibrositis, the after-effects of fracture, lumbar sciatica), not to mention the cure of chronic types of vascular and blood conditions.
