The Cavazzi Castle stands on an ancient castrum dating back to the year 1000, the foundations of which are still preserved. Its current appearance derives from two main interventions: in the 14th century, Barnabò Visconti built the brick part with Ghibelline merlons; in the 17th century, Counts and Barons Cavazzi transformed the fortress into a noble residence by adding the plastered part. The square tower, once a defensive tower, is now the main entrance leading to a small courtyard. In the centre of the courtyard is a serliana portico leading to the imposing staircase, once decorated with portraits of the Cavazzi nobles and Barnabò Visconti. Following a period of decay, the interior decorations were completely lost, with the exception of some frescoes still present in the Sala d’Armi. During the Second World War, the complex became a home for evacuees, while in 1980 it was donated to the municipality, which to this day has made it a venue for cultural institutions and events.
