Are you ready to travel along the Swiss Via Francigena? Valais, being in the heart of the Swiss wine tradition, is a forge of oenological experimentation.  900 years ago it was introduced to the viticulture by the Cistercian monks from Burgundy.

The 50,000 hectares of vineyards in Valais are managed by over 20,000 farmers! However, only 500 make their own wine, the others give grapes to the cooperative, of which the main one is the “Provins”.

Which white vines do we find here? You’ve got Fendant (local name of the better known Chasselas), soft and strong. Among the 27 varieties of white grapes originating in the area, Petit Arvine is the most successful.

And what about red? The Dôle is perhaps the most famous, obtained from the union of Pinot Noir and Gamay. Cornalyn (or Rouge de Pays) with its cherry aroma and the rustic Humane Rouge are also very intriguing.
