Thanks to the project between the European Association of the Via Francigena Ways (AEVF) and the Region of Lombardy new information panels have been set up along the regional route of the Francigena.
The initiative involved several municipalities in the province of Pavia and Lodi as a specific action in the project for the “Valorisation for the Candidacy of the Via Francigena as a UNESCO World Heritage Site”. Municipalities have taken care to place the signs. The information panels provide essential information of the route, displaying points of interest of the areas traversed as well as indications to be followed.
Sami Tawfik, EAVF project manager, highlights that “the projects carried out in collaboration with the region of Lombardy between 2017 and 2018 have allowed us to carry out important projects such as the “I Love Francigena” event walks in Lombardy, the verification of the route and its ordinary maintenance; as well as to work in coordination with the other interested regions on the candidacy of the Francigena as UNESCO heritage”.
This is a step forward in signposting that promotes the Via Francigena and encourages the cultural tourism experience of pilgrims along the Francigena.
