From Gropello Cairoli comes a small, great example of commitment to the Via Francigena.

The Lombard municipality, member of the European Association of Via Francigena Ways (EAVF) and rest-stop of the journey in the province of Pavia, has dedicated an insert to the route in the local newspaper.

Four pages in the April edition of the magazine recount the history and emotions of the Via Francigena. The special, edited by Antonio Falcone, Giacomo Sardelli and Giulia Veronese reveals the millennial roots of this European journey, the philosophy of a slow-moving experience and tells the direct experience of two Gropellian pilgrims who traversed the Via Francigena by bicycle and on foot.

The invitation to experience and learn about the route runs through the municipality: the insert ends with a presentation of the activities organised for pilgrims and residents along the Via Francigena. It’s a great local practice for the development of the Via Francigena: the citizens, together with the pilgrims, are ambassadors of the route.
