The Italian Environment and Bicycle Federation (FIAB), which for over 30 years has been committed to promoting cycling tourism, healthy lifestyle and encouraging the use of bicycles, is contributing to the post Covid-19 phase. FIAB focuses on a bicycle as a sustainable tool for outdoors physical activity and contact with nature.

FIAB launches a campaign #PedaliUnitidItalia supported by the European Association of the Via Francigena ways EAVF. The EAVF expresses its full support for development of cycling tourism in four countries of the Via Francigena.

The FIAB campaign invites you to get familiar with cycling and to organize your upcoming holidays by bicycle in Italy to discover its extraordinary heritage. The bike allows us to quickly move in open air, extend moments of “breathing” away from pollutants and visit places off the beaten track, far from the most crowded circuits.

We would like to remind you that the number of cyclists on the Via Francigena is ever increasing, in 2019 – it was well over 20%!

In Italy the Romea Francigena cycle path corresponds to itinerary No. 3 of the Bicitalia project, the first map of the national cycle tourism network created by FIAB and the Italian Ministry of the Environment.

This stretch of Bicitalia (1500 km) is the Italian segment of the “Eurovelo 5” itinerary which, like the original Via Francigena, from Canterbury reaches Brindisi, passing through the Eternal City. The cycle path partly follows the Francigena walking route.
