Via Francigena. The Road to Rome

The Vie Francigene in the South unite the East to the West, Christianity to paganism, the Ancient Age to the Middle Ages. A transversal itinerary, among Roman basalts and ancient sheep-tracks, impressive Christian cathedrals and sanctuaries, gentle hilly panoramas and harsh mountain passes. The proposed itinerary follows the route taken by the Radio RAI team during the walk of 2012, narrated by Sergio Valzania and by other journalists in the radio broadcast "From Rome to Jerusalem, the roads, the sea, our language”, and described by Alberto Conte and Chiara Rossi in the publication produced by Touring Editore on behalf of Associazione Civita "La Via Francigena nel Sud".

It is not an official itinerary, but a "work in progress" with which we hope the local administrations will cooperate by carrying out the necessary sign-posting work and by making the route safe.

The route was recorded in 2012, and is not regularly checked in the same way as the Northern Via Francigena. For this reason we invite you to be careful and we do not assume any responsibility in the event of any problems found along the way.

However, please let us know if you find any problems along the way by writing to us at
