Settimo Vittone

Settimo Vittone

The origin of the name Settimo Vittone dates back to different ages. The village is located in the area of Canavese, 73 km far away from Turin and it covers an overall area of 23,2 km². Andrate, Tavagnasco, Donato, Graglia, Borgofranco d’Ivrea. Carema, Nomaglio, Quissolo, Quincinetto and Lillianes are the adjacent communes.

The origins of the two names Settimo and Vittone almost certainly date back to different ages: Settimo refers to the Latin wording Ad septimum lapidem miliarium (the seventh stone) from Ivrea to Aosta, whereas it is more difficult to find the origin of Vittone.

According to someone it may derive from Guido, Guidonis or Vidonio, a lord of the area, whereas according to someone else it may derive from uitoun o witun, which are guides who have protected wayfarers and pilgrims in the valley bottom since 1193.
