In its landscape men's work and nature combine perfectly; a great deal of famous persons are from or stayed in San Miniato, such as Matilde di Canossa, Francesco Sforza, Lodovico Cardi said “Il Cigoli”, Piero Bagnoli, Michele Mercati, Giovanbattista Landeschi.

The Bonaparte family too traces its origins back to San Miniato (Napoleon came and visited his uncle), together with the Gucci and Borromeo families. Important people of modern times are Sen. Bucalossi and the film directors brother Taviani.
