Busseto a town in the plain of Parma is mainly famous for being the birthplace of the writer Giovannino Guareschi. The name “Busseto” comes from the Latin word “buxus” and probably indicated a box wood. In spite of its ancient origins, it is mentioned in documents only after year 1100. In the middle of the 13th century, Busseto was conquered by the noble family Pallavicino and stayed under their control until 1587, when their marquisate was conquered by the Farnese.

From that moment on, its destiny was intertwined with the Duchy of Parma and Piacenza until 1859 and the proclamation of the Reign of Italy. Many of its inhabitants have become famous during the centuries: among the most famous, we cite the composer Giuseppe Verdi and the writer Giovannino Guareschi.
