The village has been founded during the 14th century and it has developed around the castle. Belgioioso is situated in the southern part of the Province of Pavia, not faraway from the left bank of River Po and its origin is more recent than the other villages of the area. According to the popular tradition Brüsacrist was the nickname which had the inhabitants; it concerns the popular revolt of 1776 against the Curia of Pavia, who delayed nominating the news priest. The village was founded in the 14th century and it developed around the castle.

Every year, since 1986, takes place in Belgioioso “Officinalia”, the biological food and domestic ecology exhibition-market.
