The World Francigena Ultra Marathon will return on 12th and 13th October. Two days on foot along the ancient route of the Via Francigena, from Siena to Acquapendente, to rediscover some of the most beautiful villages of Tuscany and Lazio.
The event is dedicated to trekking and Nordic walking enthusiasts who try out different routes following Sigeric's route. The most challenging that which winds along 120km from Siena to Acquapendente, starting at 10:00am on Saturday 12th October from Piazza del Duomo and crosses Val d’Arbia and Val d’Orcia up to Acquapendente.
There are also less demanding routes of 32km: from Siena to Buonconvento, starting Saturday 12th October at 10:00am from Piazza del Duomo, and from Radicofani to Acquapendente, departing Sunday 13th October at 9:00am. A 20km route has been organised from Buoconvento to San Quirico d'Orcia, starting in Buonconvento in Piazza Garibaldi on 12th October at 3:00pm, and lastly, a more demanding 65km route has also been planned, starting at night (9:00pm) from San Quirico d'Orcia and arriving in Acquapendente.
The event has been organised by the Department of Sport and Tourism of the Municipality of Acquapendente and the Municipality of Siena, with the support of the European Association of Via Francigena Ways and with the collaboration of the Municipalities of Siena, Monteroni D'Arbia, Buonconvento, Montalcino, San Quirico D'Orcia, Castiglione D'Orcia, Radicofani, San Casciano dei Bagni and Proceno.
The event, promoted nationally and internationally, aims to raise awareness of an area rich in natural and artistic beauty that make up the historical, cultural and environmental heritage of the municipalities of the initiative.
